He condemns the dogs who lived on top of each other “in indescribable chaos”. 30 Million Friends Foundation. On Thursday, October 20, 2022, several of its members intervened, accompanied by the city police and the association Volunteer animal brigade (Bab) to save 58 dogs and a rabbit stuffed in an unsanitary house in Val-d’Oise.

Noah syndrome

The case begins in July after a disturbing report to Baba about a couple who would fall victim to a possible noah syndromea mental disorder that manifests itself in the accumulation of several animals at home without being able to properly house, feed and care for them.

An investigator from the Báb is sent to the scene. If the owners refuse to let her in, she sees several dogs living in deplorable conditions in a kind of shed.

“It’s not life for them or animals”

Subsequently, the city police is alerted, and an agent with an investigator from the association goes to the scene. If they are still not allowed to enter, they see around forty dogs visibly suffering from malnutrition and wading in their excrement.

After a discussion, the owners agree to give up their animals, stating that it is not life for them or the animals.

However, Bab is not able to take care of so many animals. Volunteers then start looking for associations, “except that finding one in the middle of summer, not complete, is almost impossible, especially with so many dogs,” Bab continues.

It was in September that the volunteers finally received a positive response. The 30 Million Friends Foundation agrees to collect all animals.

On October 20, foundation members and the Báb come to the house. The discovery of the place shocks them. “As soon as we entered, our teams noticed an actual landfill instead of a garden. Radiators sat under the rubble next to the dead bodies of three cars. It was a real playground for rats and dogs,” says the foundation.

Inside, dozens of dogs were found in deplorable condition, moving as best they could through feces and urine-soaked newspapers. The rabbit was found locked in the toilet because the dirty cages extended over the bed. The smell was hard to bear there.

Although these were not abused or beaten, they still suffered from parasitic problems. “Some have gum problems, holes in their hair. One of the dogs saw nothing. Another had a broken jaw…”, continues the Foundation.

Contact social services for landlords

The dogs were taken to one of their shelters in Saint-Hilliers (Seine-et-Marne) where they needed to be cared for, sterilized and treated. Work was also planned with the most fearful before they were put up for adoption.

As for the owners, if the foundation reserves the right to file a complaint against them, it does not want to overwhelm them by emphasizing that it is an “animal drama, but also a human drama,” notes the foundation, which prefers that the name of the village not be disclosed. “We contacted the social services so that the people who kept the animals were taken care of as well,” concludes the foundation.
