According to Quentin Marais
Transition halls settle at 7 rue du Canon d’Arcole. Chloé and Mélanie, 29 and 30, have devised a third location there, which will be inaugurated on 1ahem October 2022. And with a clear goal: to accelerate ecological and solidarity transition.
Companions became friends
Chloé is from the initiative of Les Halles de la Transition, an association founded in September 2021. “Basically, its mission is accelerate ecological and solidarity transition. At the age of 29, she spent more than two decades in Paris before a founding experience in nearby Sidney TerraCycle, “The big box of recycling and advice. We have built a place with several activities: coworking, events and catering. And later I found out it was a third place. » It’s a clique.
“I came back to France after the covid-19 epidemic; I discovered what the concept of the third place is and I was excited about different, rather hybrid places, with a lot of activities that create synergy between people. I found out that there are many third places about ecology, social and solidarity economy (ESS), etc. It responded to my desire to create a place that also touches people such as associations, start-ups, large groups…”
And through the alignment of the planets, Chloe we will meet Melanie, during a December 2021 partner call. The digital marketing master’s degree holder, second in her 30s, says she’s “passionate about sociological aspect in the ecological transition, in everything that involves changing habits, I find it very exciting to take into account people’s feelings, to understand why the transition can be more complicated for some than for others’.
Different backgrounds, but common goals. Chloé summarizes: “We called and it settled down very quickly on our character and our way of looking at things.
Rest, work, think…
2022 was the year of materialization. A participatory campaign, a project that caught the attention of the Post Bank, personal contributions: the duo tried to get their hands on a huge space. 250 m² inside and 200 m² garden. Corner foodstuffs with local producers, bar in which to have a labeled coffee or beer directly from Occitanie, space cook with local partner La Belle Verte, corner music, AND gardens where the furniture comes from recycled pallets, a room workshop, region cooperation…
“It’s a place open to all, someone can come and consume in an ethical and sustainable way, but they can also come and reserve a table or privatize the whole business,” comments Chloé. Who continues: “I really realized that these third places were incredible on the page create synergy among people who would never meet elsewhere, to meet on the same subject and in the same place”.
Open to all
In this new space, Chloe and Melanie definitely don’t close any doors. “We don’t want to close ourselves off from the general public or from businesses, we want enlightenment on a large scale,” aims the second. “This place will affect people and associations, start-ups, large groups, but also Mr. and Mrs. everyonewho may want to have a coffee”, continues the first.
“We’re trying to create a small world, a place where no matter where you come from, your profession, your status, your age, you’re welcome. You can exchange contacts with everyone and we want to break a little bit the codes, the classes that we can have. Everyone is affected climate change and ecological transition. And everyone can do it! Even coffee drinkers, Fairtrade and fair trade coffee is already a very big step.”
This desire is also reflected in the agenda, which is already full. “We also want to reach out to children: we will painting and engraving workshops. It will be an impactful film for the elderly or for the circular economy,” predicts Mélanie. “We want to give on Wednesday Toulouse ecosystem forward, we invite the local association, he adds. On Sundays, there will be brunch with a slightly more sporty side, such as yoga. We really want it to be all”.
For its part, Chloé emphasizes that their project “supports Toulouse Métropole because we are ‘incubated’ in Course ADDRESS, entrepreneurial path to the social and solidarity economy”.
Take off… that calls out for others?
1ahem So October is not just the beginning of the 10thE The month of 2022. It will also be the adventure of Mélanie and Chloé, who will not leave alone: three people in the bar and two alternating will accompany them.
And the ambitions are already there. ” We would like to open a location every 18 months. We want to multiply the model, go to rural areas, still in Occitania, “announces the duo. A big Test organized on Wednesday 21 September 2022 and which saw 150 people arrival at 7 rue du Canon d’Arcole, gave the first assurances. “Investors loved the project and we already offer site visitsMelanie smiles.
