The particularly anticipated announcement of the new symphony season in Toulouse comes under special circumstances: the absence of the music director following the resignation of Tugan Sokhiev and the reinstatement of its general delegate. Jean-Baptiste Fra took his place after Thierry d’Argoubet’s well-deserved retirement.

The return of Tugan Sokhiev… as guest conductor

One of the important events of this season is the return to three concerts… z Tugan Sokhiev, but this time as a guest conductor. We also learn that two violinists from Ukraine and their families have been welcomed into the orchestra, supported by Toulouse Métropole.

The return of longtime “friends”

Among the main events of this rich music season – which will begin on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. special concert “The Call of the Heights” Richard Strauss – , we record the return of guest conductors who have been longtime “friends” of the Toulouse phalanx to Toulouse. This is the case with the Japanese Kazuki Yamada, from Catalan Joseph Pons, Germans Christian Zacharias and Cornelius Meister, American Robert Trevinoof Leo Kuokman, born in Macau and above all perhaps an American conductor, violinist and composer, Joseph Swensen.

In addition, young conductors of all nationalities will take their first steps at the head of the orchestra.

With up and coming musicians

Great prestigious soloists and young musicians on the rise will also be welcome. Note the arrival of the violinists Viktoria Mullová and Chad Hoopescellist Isvan Vardai, pianists David Fray and Rudolph Buchbinder, a young harpsichordist John Rondeau, as well as a great mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa. Some of the most promising soloists on the international scene will debut in the Halle aux Grains.

Thibaut Garcia in March 2023

Let’s recall the exceptional concert on March 17, 2023, performed by a trio of Toulouse musicians of the first magnitude: guitarists Thibaut Garcia will create a concerto for guitar and orchestra by Benjamin Attahir under the direction of Pierre Bleus. A trifecta for sure!

There will be several specific concerts for young people and families Jean-Francois Zygel and Christophe Mangou.

Regional, national and international tours will eventually take the orchestra beyond metropolitan France. More than ever, this new season is characterized by abundant activity.
