Free for all women, in pharmacies and without a prescription. This is the content of the announcement regarding morning after pill created by Minister of Health François Braun.
In an interview with 20 minutespublished on Tuesday 20 September 2022, the Minister of Health announced “strengthening the protection of women by facilitating their access to emergency contraception [ou pilule du lendemain] in pharmacies, free of charge and without a prescription, at any age”.
Today it is free and without a prescription only for young female minors and free with a prescription for those under 26. We have had to fight against their difficulties in accessing emergency contraception because we know that it is most effective within 24 hours of reporting a high-risk pregnancy.
The announcement comes “while the right to abortion is declining elsewhere in the world,” the minister added on his Twitter account.
STI screening also free
François Braun also announced this in the process screening for sexually transmitted infections will also be free and without a prescription for children under 26.
Currently, this screening is free only for HIV. From now on, the option of screening will be extended to all sexually transmitted infections in order to combat this resurgence of infections as soon as possible.
The two measures will be included in the Social Security Financing Bill 2023, which will be submitted to the Council of Ministers on 26 September.
