The Flers-Briouz Chess Club returns to its tournament, which promises good prospects

More than forty of them fought on the chessboards throughout the weekend of October 22 and 23, 2022. The 16th annual local club tournament took place in Briouze (Orne). The return of this event, which was suspended in recent years due to the health crisis.

Another tournament in December?

With participants far beyond Orne, this tournament is a success according to its organizer Pascal Le Fournier. The president of the Briouze club admitted that he was even surprised to see the event start again with so many participants. Enough to give ideas for the future and consider organizing a new event before Christmas.

On the sports side, the three sections allowed players to face opponents based on placement. In open C, Anna Nicotová from the club Tremblay-en-France won. In open B, participant Inès Bernard from the Vitré club was also ordained.

Arthur Forgeais from home won the main tournament. “Overpriced, scam”, his teammates teased him all weekend. But nothing changed his concentration. With 4 out of 5 points, Arthur Forgeais finished alone in the lead and continued his progress which should see him quickly become the club’s best player.
