Bringing the young people of the continent closer together and thus contributing to the creation of European citizenship is the aim of the REJ – European Youth Meetings – in which the Hive (ex-MJC) of Verneuil-sur-Avre (Eure) For years.

Four delegations

This summer 2022, after two years of Covid-related disruptions – the last of which took place in Poland in 2019 – these Rej took place in Trebur, in Germany – partner city of Verneuil – du 3 to 13 August 2022, that is, if they were expected.

Each country had a delegation of eight young people aged 14 to 17 and two facilitators: French, German, Romanian and Polish.

“We left in two minibuses. After eight hours of driving, we arrived across the Rhine to check into a youth hostel in Mainz, 10 minutes from Trebur,” he says. Loic Lemarchand, the La Ruche animator who oversaw the Norman group purple mustard, residency director.

On the program of these meetings, before the final performance: workshops with modern or traditional dance, karaoke, songs, improvisational theater, typical cuisine from each country…”, then a workshop with the title and others with the aim of explaining, through games, how we are doing exclude young people from the group,” sums up Loïc.


A few visits, such as Frankfurt, completed this immersion, which allowed each participant to “get to know each other better, even without prejudice by speaking English most of the time”.

All the young people from the Interco area came back happy with these meetings. What the restitution before the parents recalled, Friday, September 16, 2022, at the beginning of the evening, in the premises of La Ruche. On offer: photo screening, then two films, in front of the honorary pot. Possibility of meeting even for young people.

In Verneuil in 2023

This trip was funded by the European program Erasmus +, the Franco-German Youth Office and Interco Normandie sud Eure.

To participate, each Norman family had to pay between €150 and €250, depending on their income.

Note that in 2023it is Verneuil that will welcome Rej in August, after having done so in 2018. Workshops will be held in Silo and delegations – forty people in total – will be accommodated in collective accommodation in the Verneuil sector.
