According to Emilie Jouvin
Company refrigerated transport road star was installed from 2012 on West Park Business AreaBetween Arrow and Sable-sur-Sarthe (Sarthe). Here’s how she decided to reduce her carbon footprint and committed to it Environmental Protection.
1 – By saving 1,700 km of driving per day
Etoile Routier, based in La Flèche, built a logistics center in 2012 in the Ouest Park business park in Louailles/Le Bailleul.
At that time, beyond the logistical interest of getting closer to the LDC poultry group based in Sablé-sur-Sarthe, the approach was already ecological.
“The establishment in this area made it possible to respond to the increase in transported volumes, but also to improve transport logistics thanks to the highway located 500 meters away, and therefore save 1,700 kilometers of travel per day between La Flèche and Le Bailleul,” recalled Joël Tabareau, project manager of Etoile Routière, during the inauguration of the “Territories of Industry” which is now the Ouest Park industrial zone.
This 1,700 km less per day represents “more than 750 tons Co2“.
2 – By rolling with canola
Over the years, the logistics center has grown – from 7,500 m² in 2012 to over 9,000 m² in 2015 and then to over 12,000 m² in June 2022 – and so has the operation.
Logistics activities represent more than 2 million co-packaged parcels per year and more than 7 million parcels preparing orders for dairy or meat products on behalf of manufacturers and destined for large retailers.
Packages to be subsequently transported: 26 million km are transported by trucks every year.
To reduce its carbon footprint, Etoile Routier decided to use B100 for 40% of its truck fleet. AND rapeseed fuel “100% French and a 60% reduction in Co² and 80% particulate emissions compared to a diesel engine”.
In 2019, a partnership was signed with the Avril cooperative for the supply of this fuel produced in France.
3 – By installing solar panels
During the latest expansion of the Bailleul platform, completed in June 2022 and carried out to “respond to the new growth in volumes”, the management of Etoile Routier decided to installation of solar panels over the entire extension, i.e. over 3,600 m2.
This allows for the production of 480 kilowatt-peaks, i.e. a reduction of more than 200 tons of expected Co².
The extension is also equipped with 27 loading doors “and electrical terminals to operate the refrigeration units of the semi-trailers in standby mode on site, resulting in new Co² savings”.
Charging stations for electric cars are also installed.
4 – Recovery of heat sources
In all its L’Etoile Routière stores recovers heat sources cold production for defrosting its 80 evaporators.
This represents a saving of 4 hours of electricity per 24 hours and per device.
Note that all warehouses have LED lighting.
5 – By washing trucks with rain water
The refrigerated transport company also collects rainwater. “It is then used to wash the exterior of trucks. »
This washing water itself is reworked with a mini conditioner! I.e 80% water saving.
These numerous initiatives will be multiplied to achieve precise and quantified targets: for 2022, Road Star plans to reduce more than 4000 tons Co2and aims to reduce its carbon emissions 40% for 2030.
