“It’s the second time in a month that I’ve come,” says 60-year-old Dominique with a big smile. In the tattoo shop, Roses in Georgettewhich has been run by Laure and Nicolas ever since July 2022came among girlfriends to get an ephemeral design tattooed.

In a very relaxed atmosphere, this Friday, September 16, 2022, at 66 rue du Maréchal Joffre in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), Dominique confides that she is already a follower of the ephemeral tattoo concept on Jaguar ink. Like henna, this is natural and comes from fruits in the Amazon. The pattern lasts like this 15 days on average.

“I’ve wanted it for a long time. It’s a way to make yourself happy and then go back a bit to your childhood,” she explains after making a butterfly on her right shoulder and two large poppies on the forearm.

Against industrial patches that we stick to the skin and rub with water to make the design appear, these tattoos are made by a design professional, Nicolas Gremaud and his self-made patterns that he draws directly on the skin.

However, this is not originally his profession. He is illustrator for motion design in the communications agency and Laure Delcourt, his partner, is graphic designer freelance work. But both changed paths by getting into tattooing in 2020trip to Morocco

“It’s like nail polish that you change according to your outfit”

There, the fifty-year-old couple made henna and they loved it. “It’s nice that it’s ephemeral, but we wanted to erase the red aspect. We wanted to process it like a real black tattoo. But we didn’t know black ink existed,” says Laure Delcourt, the store’s art director.

The couple comes from Paris and has been living in Nantes for several years. They opened their shop here because he wanted the concept to be for the people of Nantes.

But when they discovered Jaguar ink, it was a “disaster”. “It stained the fingers for 10 days, but then we got better,” he recalls with a smile. They wanted to make some very quickly fashion accessory.

Because it is ephemeral, we have to create a collection like clothes for followers to discover new models. It’s like a nail polish that you change according to your outfit.

For this they created the universe around grandma Laura, Georgette. “She was a very elegant woman. She took great care of herself,” describes the artistic director.

So, in addition to tattoos as a fashion accessory, other products also come to it, such as soaps, moisturizing balms… They come for skin care and tattoos.

The couple also developed the concept of tattoo sticks. “We tattoo live for companies, for example. We create exclusive patterns or write messages for a brand. For example, we collaborated with IKKS,” continues the artistic director.

La Rose à Georgette is also a needle tattoo

In addition to ephemera, the shop has a needle tattoo parlor. It is Nicolas who is at work after completing a one-year training course. He makes his own designs and can create a specific project with a client who comes up with an idea for a tattoo.

This temporary tattoo is also a good way to test designs and body parts before starting. “I’m getting used to the concept before I get the actual tattoo. I’m still looking for myself,” explains Dominique News from Nantes.

Her 30-year-old daughter, Jessica, agrees with this. As she gets a small flower tattooed on the underside of her wrist, she confirms: “I’ve had this desire for a few years and I’ve discussed it with Dominique. »

This type of tattoo also seems to be more affordable different generations. “For some people, a temporary is easier to get away with compared to a permanent tattoo,” says Laure. They have had their clientele since July between 4 and 77 years.

“We hope to do it one day”

Today, however, the couple still cannot make a living. Laure and Nicolas still have their activity parallel free legs to help them launch their new concept. “We hope to do that one day. We would like to tattoo abroad,” projects Laure, who does not regret changing her path.

There is a human side that we don’t currently have in our freelance work. Tattoos can be very intimate. We put ourselves in a bubble, contact is made and our customers leave relaxed. We are happy to contribute to this.

In the store, for example, there are already tattooed women who come for hide scars. “Sometimes the scar is too fresh to hide with a permanent tattoo.” So we’ll make ephemeral. They are touched when we do it. We managed to solve an important problem for them,” says Laure.
