Landiras: the community provides more than 46,000 euros to the firefighters of the Gironde

After the fires that ravaged Landiras, Guillos and the surrounding area, the first municipal council was held Landiras (Gironde), Wednesday, September 14. The former residence of the firemen throughout the summer. On this occasion, the mayors of Landiras and Guillos took the floor with great emotion and gratitude in front of the elected representatives of the 27 municipalities of the Cdc Convergence Garonne.

The community decided to allocate more than 46,000 euros in favor of SDIS 33, in other words the firefighters of the Gironde. A slight increase in aid compared to last year.

Population support

Since 2018, the community of municipalities has been paying a voluntary contribution to the SDIS de la Gironde (Union Fire and Rescue Service) as compensation for its increasing funding needs, linked mainly to the population growth of the department. The municipalities then transfer this contribution to the community of municipalities.

By letter dated 16 December 2021, the SDIS de la Gironde requested the cdc to renew the voluntary contribution of the municipalities to the SDIS de Gironde, the amount of which, updated with regard to the number of inhabitants in 2021, amounts to €46,916.49 for the financial year 2022, an increase of 182.85 EUR compared to last year. This increase is transferred to municipalities whose population has increased.

“The fire is solved but not controlled”

Regarding the summer fires, the mayor of Landiranais wanted to remind before the vote on this council the extent of the damage and in the face of this “fire monster” that the organization deployed, emergency throughout the summer season.

We tried to accommodate the firefighters as best we could. In the beginning we only had local barracks: Cadillac, La Brède, Cabanac and Langon. Then we ended up with 450 firefighters having to shower at the same time. They were pampered at Landiras, but some were on the pitch until 8pm and only slept for four hours. The fire is repaired but not under control.

A long round of applause from the elected representatives as a sign of appreciation and aid of more than 46,000 euros was approved by the entire assembly.
