The big day has finally arrived the peninsula of Caen (Calvados). Residents of this rapidly changing neighborhood are finally seeing the arrival of new restaurants. From this Wednesday, September 28, 2022, they can use opening of Keys Coffee House on the corner of the Norway building, overlooking both the courtyard and Alexis de Tocqueville’s library.
This device is the little brother Keys & Co, a very popular café in the city, but was closed on avenue du Six-Juin for six months after an arson attack. It is expected to reopen in “early November”.

Brunch all week

A little brother for sure, but not quite Siamese. Stephanie Telling, founder and co-manager of the two “New Zealand-style cafes” with her mother, Mylène, have “the same values”, “the same desire to create a friendly atmosphere”. They do it differently. “We’ve wanted more space to offer something a little different for some time,” continues Stephanie. Something close to the “take-out breakfast culture in New Zealand where we meet friends”. That’s why Keys Coffee Shop offers “a la carte brunches” all week, not just on Sundays.

Their menu includes homemade muesli, “a different Granola” than at Keys & Co, the famous toasted “Keys Pancakes” topped with fruit, eggs, maple cream, banana scones and more. All of this is served with “specialty coffees as high-end as possible,” says Stephanie Telling. The founders of the two Keys went so far as to create a “custom blend” with the Caen roastery Bush, which blends beans from Colombia, Indonesia and Nicaragua. Next to it, we offer “pure origin coffee that changes according to our wishes”. For the opening, they propose a cafe from Lomian institution in Paris that was “Keys & Co’s first supplier in 2016”.

Space, light that swallows magpies

During the day, in addition to slices of cake, Keys Coffee House also offers savory specialties such as New Zealand cakes, muffins (sausage rolls), sourdough sandwiches prepared by baker Diego Laporal of Pain Vivant. And also hamburgers sold in markets for a few years or sandwiches.

A range of dishes to eat in a vibrant atmosphere. The little brother is more spacious than the original Keys & Co, distributing around sixty seats between a room on the ground floor with tables and a counter far apart, another on the mezzanine and a terrace with about twenty seats.
