According to the prefecture, these are “foreigners of Albanian, Algerian and Angolan nationality who have been denied the right to asylum and who have exhausted their appeals, i.e. in an irregular situation on French territory”.

The families were offered emergency accommodation for that night as well as assistance with voluntary return to their country of origin. This assistance includes administrative and material assistance in preparing the trip, temporary accommodation in a voluntary return preparation center, reimbursement of transport costs and financial assistance.

Gironde prefecture

However, on October 21, five days before this expulsion, the Romeurope National Human Rights Collective asked the Gironde prefecture not to resort to public violence over the presence of eight children and two pregnant women.

The prefecture did not take this request into consideration and therefore proceeded with the evacuation. “The vacated places have been returned to their owner, who will take care of securing the place to prevent further intrusion,” adds the prefect.
