Originally relegated to D2, Pont-Hebert (sleeve) was worked out to mid-July 2022. Two months later he has a club they won their first three league games. It sheds light on the reasons for this revival.

Great preparation

While most teams resumed training in early August CA Pontois has she started her training on July 15. “We have a schedule athletic session and Fitness for those who wanted it. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday a twenty players were present,” assures Laurent Loir, the coach who arrived from PL Octevillealmost surprised by such attendance.

“That athletic work pays off early in the season. We saw it for the first time in the Coupe de France, where we knocked out Condé (2-2, tab 4-2) before walking away with honors against Agneaux (2-4). Then in the league with those three wins. Players are rewarded for their efforts. »

New life

Ninth last seasonPont-Hébert was initially classified as D2 despite a honest balance sheet (7 wins, 8 draws, 9 losses). “We thought we were headed for promotion to D1 and on July 15th we found out we were caught out by coincidence,” says Laurent Loir, who himself came out of relegation with PLO. This rescue combined with the arrival of co-presidents who came to support Raphaël Ruaults, a vengeful coach and some quality players, appears to have increased WTP. “The club needed a new beginning, so do I after experiencing a lot of frustration last season. We found each other well,” sums up the coach, who lives and works in Cherbourg while awaiting a transfer. This renewal is also reflected in the reserve teams in D3 and D4like last weekend’s successful Grand Slam.

A good state of mind

“With a late draft, we. missed a few shots in recruitingbut at least those who stayed really did it for the club,” says Laurent Loir, who is particularly pleased with his group.

“The guys are very attentive, very disciplined. They follow the instructions to the letter. As a result, everyone fires. »

Among the older players, the technician can count on Captain Xavier Le Meur, shooter Hakim Plos (six goals in three games). recruits Kyllian Tourand, Dylan Legendre, Stéphane Gnaba and Jean-Michel Ahoua (Senegalese who was in Ukraine), or even Mary the Baptistwho is returning from a long injury.

Revised target?

Before the start of the championship, Laurent Loir announced aim for the top of the board “to avoid many descents”. This hot start to the season can increase ambition from Pont-Hebert?

“We put things into perspective a bit as we faced three reserves, Cherbourg ‘C’ (4-0), Agneaux ‘B’ (3-1) and Tourlaville ‘C’ (6-1) who played their first official match . this weekend.-end. These teams are often less armed at the start of the season. So no euphoria! We will know more about our value after October, when we have a big program ahead of us. »
