This is, in a way, the conclusion of a new study, the results of which were published in Assessment Nutrition, metabolism and cardiovascular disease. According to this research, eating a handful of nuts a day could prevent you from getting sick. This would protect you from many risks.

Scientists from the University of Minnesota, responsible for this study, discovered the miraculous potential benefits of walnuts after following the diet of 3,300 people for more than 25 years and conducting several health examinations. The results showed that in addition to lowering blood pressure, its consumption would also reduce weight gain and thus the risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Results to be confirmed

According to the researchers, these benefits could be linked to the omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid found in walnuts. But also all the other nutrients they contain, including protein, fiber and magnesium, which support heart health.

For So-Yun Yi, a PhD student in public health, this study supports claims that make walnuts “part of a healthy diet”. However, these results are observational and clinical studies should be conducted to support and confirm them.
