Dozulé: just before closing, the laundromat is desperately looking for buyers

Didier Richard, owner of the laundromat that bears his name and is located in the heart of the town center of Dozulé (Calvados) with other shops and services for a population of more than 2,000 inhabitants, launches the challenge like a bottle in the sea.

I am of retirement age. I put it up for sale two years ago, but I can’t find a buyer. My employee will also retire. If I don’t sell by the end of the year, the store will close permanently.

However, this shop has been on the street for 32 years. “My wife opened the laundry in 1990. It was located near the church,” recalls Didier Richard. Then, in 2003, the store was transferred to the city center, where it remains today. “Then I stopped the farm to help my wife. I was a farmer.” And in 2015, “after his death, I took over the business myself.”

As a laundry, “house, made on site”, the store attracts customers within 30 km of Dozulé. “Bed and breakfast, country cottages, restaurants, tourist accommodation facilities are my main clientele. I also do subcontracting with several nearby municipalities,” explains the seller. Not to mention the laundry area for individuals.

Didier Richard had a few hits but nothing serious. “Either I didn’t have an answer, or I just didn’t care,” he says. Or “I have had contacts with investors who want to convert to apartments”.

Maintaining local trade is a local matter for the village of Dozulé. That is why its mayor Sophie Gaugain is doing everything to include them in the development of her territory and to support managers and owners.

It is a well-known laundry with a large customer base. A service provider for the entire local economy, which is part of the strategic enterprises of a certain territory. These are skills that should not be lost.

If this business were indeed to close its doors, “customers should go as close as possible to Dives-sur-Mer or even Pont-l’Évêque”, emphasizes the future retiree, who is ready to guide and train the buyer for several months if necessary.
