Faced with a ban on the use of phytosanitary products in public spaces, the municipality of Argouges (Manche) carried out asphalt work in the alleys of its cemetery. These were carried out by LTP Loisel from April to June.

» Now that the painting of the cemetery is complete, we have asked SARL Dubois d’Argouges to remodel the identical oak frame of the chapel located in the cemetery, blessed in 1953 by Mgr. Bernard, bishop of Conakry and a classmate of Father Hamelin, the parish priest at the time,” explains mayor Chantal de Saint-Denis.

Back to the founding of the current cemetery

For information, due to the lack of space in the old cemetery that was around the church, the municipality of Argouges decided in 1950 to create the current cemetery on a site of approximately 46 ares (4,600 m²), which was then the property of the CCAS (Communal Center for Social Actions), which is located about 500 meters from the church along the ward road.

Arrangements were then made to allow families who wished to transfer the plots of the old cemetery to the new one.

Work began in 1951, work was completed in 1953.

Also, due to the sacred nature of the cemetery, the parish priest at the time, Father Hamelin, considered creating a religious symbol. Thanks to the donations of more than 240 families, the chapel was therefore built. The station of the cross of the church was then placed in it.

And even today, after painting, the municipality decided to remodel the skeleton of the same chapel, which was carried out by the company Dubois d’Argouges.
