The Anděl bakery near Lamballe suddenly closed its doors in the middle of the week. A message from the owners on the door:

Permanent closure of the bakery. After multiplying the electricity bills by 5, we can’t go on.

On a Wednesday afternoon, the phone rings empty.

victims of inflation

No, it wasn’t a long-planned departure. Frédéric and Sylvie were actually driven by energy costs. They are direct victims of current inflation.

Contacted by phone, mayor Nicole Poulain confirms.

There is also a bar restaurant and hairdresser in Anděl village. Therefore, the bakery was not the only business in the town of 1,200 inhabitants.

However, the sudden closure of a business of first necessity is inevitably surprising.

Nicole Poulain regrets:

The role of the town hall is of course also to be a support for its traders. But in these proportions it is impossible.

But the municipality does not give up and will do everything to replace the departing baker.

The mayor did not want to comment further on the situation. “We are going to address residents directly in our municipal newsletter, which will be published by the end of the month. Our bakers also write a small note there. »

Sylvie and Frédéric Verceux took over the village bakery at the end of 2016. Originally from the Loiret, they chose Brittany for their last years of work.
