An album about Alzheimer’s disease

“People like to read poetry, even though it’s a genre that’s marketed differently,” he says Pierre Lenganey, owner of Le Passage bookstore in Alençon and Motus publishing house.

These Motus editions take care of meaningful topics like acceptance of difference, disability…

Two authors were present for the illustration of this brand.

Frank Achard is the author of the children’s album “Grand-père papillon”, which, without mentioning his name, deals with Alzheimer’s disease. It is the story of a little girl who tells her grandfather, a butterfly collector.

One day the butterfly will fly away and so will the memories of his grandfather. Then come the questions and interrogations… The illustrations of the story are as poetic as the texts themselves: “The image complements the meaning”, explains Evanne Dufeil, the illustrator who together with the author Franck offered to read their album for the public, in the afternoon.

His daughter’s story

Benoît Lemennais, the author of the children’s album “Main-Oiseau” was inspired by his personal story: his daughter, now 18 years old, was born with a malformation of the hand.

It was never a problem for my daughter, while it was painful for me at first. She created joy around her uniqueness.

Marianne Ferrer’s illustrations bring a delicacy and poetry to this story that brings handicap to an advantage. Benoît Lemmenais offered a musical reading from his album alongside musician Marie Bunel, who covered Leonard Cohen’s songs in English. “It was obvious that Marie was singing on the ‘Birds on a wire’ album about birds and birth. »

Festival review: very positive!

The president of the association of book fairs, Nadine Pierre, admits that she is satisfied with the two weeks dedicated to the Book Festival and others.

There was a great variety of proposals and audiences around women, nature, literature… The results are very positive! The festival welcomed around 80 guests: authors, musicians, storytellers, actors, craftsmen, designers who could meet and discuss with the visitors.

The goal of the festival – “to reach everyone, to make reading accessible to everyone” – was fully achieved!
