What will be the economic consequences of the double fire that ravaged the Hostens and Landiras sectors this summer? Still, it is too early to give an exact answer.

On Tuesday, September 13, he stood within the walls of Langon subprefecture work meeting. Around the table: the mayors of the respective municipalities, the representatives of the municipalities, the management of public finances and the sub-prefect of the district Vincent Ferrier.

An important detail to note: everything related to growing a forest is handled separately, in a specific file.

“Significant expenses in relation to the budgetary capacities of municipalities”

As for municipalities, after what the state refers to as “ a crisis of unprecedented scale “Thousands of euros are at stake.

The first point concerns logistics. During the fires, many municipalities got involved and spent money to help, etc. They can get compensation either from the departmental fire and rescue service, but also from the state.

On this side it is ensured by the sub-prefect “Things are already at an advanced stage.”

Second point? Damage to common equipment. Roads, paths, drinking water networks… All these plagued these long days and these endless nights during which the firefighters had to deal with.

The state is on the side of the municipalities, the sub-prefect of the district announces. We need to make a fairly accurate assessment of the costs that this represents in order to properly set up a tool that will allow communities to be financially supported. It concerns a relatively limited number of municipalities, but the expenses will be considerable in relation to the budgetary capacities of the town halls. »

A new meeting, this time bigger, is scheduled for Friday, September 23, at departmental level in the Gironde prefecture in Bordeaux.

Case by case

Finally, the last point discussed concerns economic entities whose activities were directly affected by the fires. We think of Grands Chais de France, in Landiras, but also to VSE and SMEs, to professionals based in Hostens. And for whom the state wishes to “look on a case-by-case basis” to provide the best possible support.
